YouTube introduces YouTube handle for Content Creators

As YouTube continue to grow and stand as one of the top video sharing platform worldwide, they have over the year made many announcement and changes for content creators.

On October 10th 2022, YouTube made an announcement to all the content creators about their new features that will be rolled out soon. Immediately after the announcement, YouTube handle was rolled out and creators were able to see it on their channel.

“We’re writing to let you know that over the coming weeks YouTube will be introducing handles to make it easier for members of the community to find and connect with each other. Your handle will be unique to your channel and will be how people mention you in comments, community posts, and more”, – The YouTube team

What is YouTube Handle?

A YouTube handle is a new way for people to find you and connect with you. Unlike channel names, handles are unique to each creator, making it easier for you to establish a distinct presence on YouTube.

Handles and Channel URLs

Your new handle will become a part of your channel URL. In most cases, your personalized URL will become your handle. You can use your handle to direct people to your channel when they’re not on YouTube. For example, if your handle is @user123, your channel URL will be
Note that your existing channel URL(s) will continue to work. So this ideally means YouTube handles won’t affect your channel URL in any way.

  1. Get noticed in YouTube shorts
  2. Identify yourself in a unique way
  3. People can tag you in videos
  4. Let others find you on YouTube
  5. Connect with others in the YouTube community

“We’re gradually rolling out the ability to choose a handle for all channels over the coming weeks, and you will receive another email and a notification in YouTube Studio when you’re able to choose yoursIn most cases, if you already have a personalized URL for your channel, we’ve reserved this for you as your handle. If you want a different handle from the one we’ve reserved, you can change it. If you don’t already have a personalized URL today, you’ll also be able to choose a handle for your channel”, – YouTube team

In their email to creators, YouTube also noted that starting on November 14, 2022, if you haven’t yet selected a handle for your channel, they will automatically assign you a handle, which you can change in YouTube Studio if you’d like
