Today! Majority of people are at least having access to some form of electronic device that can access internet every week or even every day in Uganda. People own their personal laptop, smartphones, tablets and they really don’t know that it can be used to make some extra cash over the internet besides communication only.

YouTube is one of the video platform that has over 1.8 billion users every month and visitors every day. People visit YouTube because of different purposes and this is because YouTube has got millions of videos that you can always watch and get solution to your problems, you can use YouTube as a learning place or just visit for entertainment. But did you know that you can actually be a content creator on YouTube? What I meant by being a content creator is that you can make videos and upload in YouTube for people to watch.

Before you can even think of making any YouTube video, the first step is always to open a YouTube channel. Opening a YouTube channel is really easy because all you need is a Gmail account and you are good to go. This is because YouTube is a Google subsidiary therefore Google email account is a must if you are planning of starting a YouTube channel.

One of the best and proven way is that you can make some extra money through your videos by joining the YouTube Partner Program (YPP)

Few months ago, YouTube announced even more ways that creators can get more revenue from their video content. There are few guidelines and rules though that you will have to follow and abide by before you can start making money on YouTube. In order to join the YouTube Partner Program and be accepted, your channel must have at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time and you need to apply and be accepted into the program.

Remember to always following YouTube terms and conditions like making sure that all your videos and contents in it are original because uploading other people’s videos may lead to copyright claim that can be dangerous to your channel and incase of any strike YouTube can turn down your channel. Original content is the key in YouTube.

Upon reaching the YouTube requirements of 1,000 Subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time you can then apply for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and if your channel qualify then you will get a response from YouTube team in few days. Later on you can start monetizing you YouTube videos and make some money.
