Airtel celebrates 10 years of existence and service in Uganda

Airtel Uganda is celebrating 10 years of its existence and service in the country since it was launched. Airtel made 10 years in Uganda on June 08, 2020.

Airtel was launched in Uganda in June, 2010 and has a mobile operator Airtel has introduced different  communication products and services that they believed have transformed millions of Ugandans and businesses

History of the airtel in Uganda

CELTEL Uganda was the first Telecommunication Company in Uganda that was introduced in 1995 and transformed telephony by connecting people with the use of a mobile phone.

In July 2007, CELTEL Uganda changed its brand name to ZAIN Uganda that was eventually changed to Airtel Uganda in 2010 thus joining a family of over 361 million customers across its operations at the end of May 2016.

In May 2013, Airtel Uganda achieved a great success story having acquired Warid Telecom and growing to a family of over 8.9 Million customers and being the 2nd largest telecom in Uganda.

In 10 years, Airtel Uganda have also made it to the list of top 10 most admired brands in Africa. With a base of over 100 million subscribers across 14 countries in Africa, Airtel has also democratized data access with unmatched 4G coverage, state of the art apps like My Airtel App and Airtel TV and also free data access to schools.

In addition, Airtel has also eased financial transactions through Airtel Money where people can receive and send money to their friends and family.

As a way of saying thank you to its subscribers, Airtel Uganda has designed an offer dubbed THANK YOU BUNDLES every Monday of June where Airtel users get 3GB of data and 100 minutes at UGX 5,000 valid for 3 days OR 1.5GB of data and 30 minutes at UGX 2,500 valid for 24 hours to celebrate the 10 years journey of Airtel in Uganda.
